Philadelphia readies for 2012 green-building conference
Aditi Justa | Oct 14 2009

Philadelphia has started preparing itself for the November 2012 event, which will bring about 30,000 green-building advocates from around the world to the city. The U.S. Green Building Council will back the grand event, while the responsibility to make it a success lies in the hands of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council. Work toward transforming the city into an array of sustainable construction to show off in 2012 has begun from this week itself.

A meeting will be conducted today and tomorrow with the aim to promote unique partnerships for research, investment, collaboration, and education in green building. Some 300 officials from government, higher education, commerce and nonprofit organizations, including Gov. Rendell and Mayor Nutter, will be a part of the conference. This event by the Delaware Valley Green Building Council will set an environment for ideas, policy and strategies that will strengthen the green economy for decades to come.

The council will work toward making a case for green building, which will be made keeping in mind the consumers. Philadelphia is one of the highest ranked when it comes to average construction costs. Therefore, the government is working toward cutting down the building costs by instituting new zoning and building-permit processes, which would make it easier and cheaper to incorporate green features into new construction, and building retrofits.
